Ladies and gentlemen,
dear comrades,

We have the pleasure to invite you to the first official conference of EUSONET under the roof of the Party of European Socialists PSE/SPE.

Does the European Union lead to a social Europe?
Does the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice mean an intervention into the rights of collective wage of trade unions and employers associations?

These shall be the themes and headlines of our discussions. The question of a social Europe and its political power to shape the society has just become very topical as the international financial crisis has proven the need of market control by the state.

EUSONET is the name of an initiative which met in Berlin two years ago for the first time and intends to broaden the knowledge of socialist lawyers about Europe and its legal systems. But EUSONET is also a personal network for socialist colleagues in the European Union. These aims are pursued by current meetings as well as exchange on the Internet. Last year we successfully arranged a scientific convention in Vienna. This year our conference takes place during PES council in Madrid for the first time. It is intended that EUSONET, as a group of socialist lawyers, could become an official part of PES.

For this purpose, for voting speakers and planning the next steps and events we will have another meeting in the evening starting at 5.00 pm at the same place. Our convention is part of this year’s PES council and you are invited to take part in all the meetings and events starting on Saturday, 29th of November until Tuesday, 2nd of December. Enclosed you will find the program of the whole council.

Travel expenses can not be met by EUSONET. Perhaps the member parties are able to cover the costs of their national participants. In addition the organisation of PES-activists in cooperation with FEPS, a new European foundation with socialist orientation, have also invited to the council and are able to finance travel and accomodation expenses in Madrid for about 200 persons.
